Music Lyrics

Music Lyrics are the words used in songs. They can be written at the same time as the music is being composed, or added later.

Sometimes music is written for or adapted to lyrics - or even a poem - that have already been written. The person who writes the lyrics is known as a lyricist.

There are many collaborations known throughout musical history, with a number of famous partnerships. Sometimes one partner would specialize in the musical composition and the other would write the lyrics, as with Richard Rodgers (composer) who had famous partnerships with Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II. Readers will remember some of their works, including 'The Sound of Music', 'The King and I', 'Carousel', 'Pal Joey', 'Oklahoma!', and many more.

In other musical partnerships, such as with John Lennon and Paul McCartney, each will contribute to both words and music.
